Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing — the three engineering disciplines that cover a data centre's physical infrastructure.
Full Definition

MEP (Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing) is the collective term for the three engineering disciplines responsible for a building's operational systems. In a data centre context, mechanical covers the cooling plant (chillers, CRAHs, CDUs, cooling towers), electrical covers the power train (HV intake, UPS, generators, switchgear, PDUs, busbars) and plumbing covers pipework for chilled water, condenser water, CDU loops and fire suppression.

MEP works are typically the dominant cost and schedule driver in a data centre construction or fit-out project, often representing 60–70% of total project cost. Coordinating MEP design with structural, architectural and IT infrastructure requirements — particularly for high-density liquid-cooled deployments — is one of the core competencies PODTECH brings to mobilisation and commissioning projects.
