MEP
MEPFAT and SAT
Factory Acceptance Test and Site Acceptance Test — the two commissioning milestones at which equipment is formally verified before handover.
Full Definition

A Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) is conducted at the manufacturer's premises before equipment ships. The buyer or their representative witnesses the equipment operating to specification under controlled conditions. For data centre plant — UPS, generators, switchgear, CDUs — the FAT verifies rated performance, protection settings, SCADA integration and any specific customer requirements.

A Site Acceptance Test (SAT) is performed after installation at the customer site. It validates that the equipment performs correctly in its final configuration, including integration with other systems. For critical power and cooling plant, the SAT typically involves load bank testing, simulated mains failure and recovery sequences. Integrated System Testing (IST) — a full-scale orchestrated failure test of the entire facility — is often conducted after SAT as a final commissioning milestone before go-live.
