ColoHyperscale Data Centre
Very large data centre (typically 40+ MW) operated by cloud providers at massive scale with highly standardised infrastructure.
Full Definition
A hyperscale data centre supports tens of thousands of servers across hundreds of megawatts of IT load, designed to scale rapidly and cost-efficiently. The term originates from Synergy Research Group's classification of large cloud operators (AWS, Azure, Google). Hyperscale design principles — standardised rack-scale hardware, software-defined infrastructure, and aggressive power/cooling optimisation — have influenced enterprise data centre design broadly. Hyperscale facilities routinely achieve PUE below 1.15 through free cooling, direct liquid cooling, and purpose-built server designs.
