Data Center Planet Is Now an App — Live on iOS and Android

Data Center Planet has lived in a browser tab since 2014. From this week it also lives on your phone. The app is out now, free, on both the App Store and Google Play.

Data Center Planet — the global data centre directory

The reason is simple enough. A lot of the people who use the directory are not sitting at a desk when they need it. They are in a car park outside a facility, in a taxi between site visits, or killing forty minutes in an airport before a flight, trying to work out who operates a building or whether a market has the capacity they are chasing. The website has always handled that well enough. It was never built phone-first though, and there is a difference.

What You Get

The full global directory comes with you. Search data centres, colocation facilities, cloud platforms, managed service providers and specialist suppliers by country, city and provider, then filter down by location and category until you have a shortlist worth calling. From there you can connect with the operator directly.

Industry news

New builds, market expansion, power, cooling and connectivity.

Events

The conferences and expos worth putting in the diary.

The industry news feed is in there too, covering new builds, market expansion, power, cooling and connectivity. So is the events listing, which tracks the conferences and expos worth putting in the diary.

If You Run a Facility

If you are on the other side of the table and you run a facility, you can create a free account, publish a listing and manage your presence from the phone in your hand. No laptop required.

Why It Matters to Us

We have been building Data Center Planet for twelve years, and the thing we keep coming back to is that the industry does not run on desktops. It runs on site visits, on handovers, on someone needing an answer in the ten minutes before a meeting starts. Putting the directory on a phone is less a new product than an overdue one.

It also sits alongside the work we did earlier this year on the web platform, where we opened listings up properly with galleries, specifications, satellite views and the global submarine cable and landing station maps. Everything we have added there has been about depth rather than reach. The app is the same idea pointed at a smaller screen.

The app is free on both platforms. New listings, industry news and event coverage go in weekly, so it is worth keeping on the home screen rather than installing once and forgetting about it.
