datacenterplanet.com Gets a Major Upgrade — Richer Listings and a Global Cabling View
Our app datacenterplanet.com — running since 2014 — has just shipped its biggest release yet: a new Exchange Forum, complete unrestricted listings with galleries, video, DC specs and satellite views, and new 3D and flat global cabling views built for every device.

Datacenter Planet has always been about making the global data centre market visible in one place. This release pushes that further — operators, MSIs and service providers can now present a full, complete picture of who they are and what they do, and visitors get a much richer way to navigate the physical fabric of the internet.
Twelve Years In, and Still Building
We have been running Datacenter Planet since 2014. It started as a simple idea — a single, honest, global view of the data centre market — and has been building quietly ever since. Every release has been about adding depth rather than chasing scale: better data, better navigation, and a platform that genuinely reflects how the industry actually works.
This release is the biggest step forward we have taken in a long time, and it lands on top of more than a decade of steady work.
Complete Listings, No Restrictions
We have reworked the advertising and listing model from the ground up. Every listing — whether it is a colocation facility, a service provider, or an equipment vendor — can now be presented as a full company or facility profile rather than a static directory entry. No tiered restrictions, no locked sections, no upsell gates between you and a complete profile.
- Full image galleries — site photography, build phases, white space, MEP, exterior and aerial shots.
- Embedded video — site tours, capability reels and product walkthroughs sit directly inside the listing.
- Complete DC specifications — power, cooling, design PUE, redundancy tier, available capacity, connectivity and certifications.
- Satellite views — every facility has a satellite map of its physical site, alongside country and city tagging and proximity to peering hubs.
- Owner-managed — every listing has an Edit Listing flow so the people who run the facility keep their own profile current.

Global Cabling and Landing Stations
The biggest addition in this release is the global submarine cable and landing-station view. Data centres do not exist in isolation — they sit on top of a physical mesh of fibre that crosses oceans and lands at very specific places on the coastline. We have brought that picture into Datacenter Planet directly.
- 3,162 landing stations mapped worldwide, with the cable routes that connect them.
- New 3D and flat views — switch between an interactive 3D globe and a traditional flat map. Both are tuned for desktop, tablet and mobile, so the same view works from a war-room screen down to a phone.
- Density heatmap — highlights where the world's connectivity concentrates, from Marseille to Singapore to the US East Coast.
- Cluster and route toggles — turn landings, clusters and route overlays on and off depending on what you are looking for.
- Sponsored by PODTECH — the global view is hosted on Datacenter Planet and powered by PODTECH.
The intent is straightforward: if you are siting a new facility, planning a route, evaluating a region, or simply trying to understand where the internet actually plugs into the world, Datacenter Planet now shows you the whole picture in one place.
A New Exchange Forum
Alongside the directory, we have launched an Exchange Forum on Datacenter Planet — a dedicated space for operators, MSIs, designers, vendors and end users to talk to each other in the open. RFPs, capacity questions, technical threads, market commentary and partnership discussions all live in one place, against the same shared backdrop of listings and infrastructure data. The directory tells you who is out there; the forum is where the actual conversations happen.
Built for Every Device
The new 3D and flat views, the directory, the listings and the forum are all designed to work properly on every device. Desktop, laptop, tablet and phone get the full experience — not a stripped-down mobile fallback. Whether you are presenting in a boardroom, walking a site, or scrolling on the train, the platform behaves the same.
A Better Place to Be Listed
For operators and partners already on Datacenter Planet, the upgrade path is automatic — existing listings can be extended into the new richer format without losing their place or their inbound links. For organisations not yet listed, this is a good moment to claim a profile and use the gallery, video and spec sections properly.
Why PODTECH Is Behind It
Datacenter Planet is part of the same family as PODTECH. Our day job is the critical environment inside data centres — power, cooling, monitoring, master systems integration — and Datacenter Planet is how we keep an honest, public view of the wider market we work in. Sponsoring the global cabling view and underwriting the platform improvements is a natural extension of that.
