Power Distribution Unit

PDU

Device that distributes electrical power from a single high-amperage source to multiple rack-mounted devices.

Unit: kW / phase

Full Definition

A Power Distribution Unit (PDU) distributes AC power from a single high-amperage feed to multiple outlets. Intelligent (smart) PDUs provide per-outlet power metering, remote switching, and environmental monitoring, enabling fine-grained power visibility at device level. Dual-corded servers connect to independent A and B PDU feeds for resilience. Floor-mounted PDUs feed multiple racks from a single transformer or UPS output circuit.
