Air Containment

Physical barriers preventing hot exhaust and cold supply air from mixing in a data hall.

Full Definition

Air containment uses rigid panels, flexible curtains, blanking panels, and aisle end-caps to prevent hot exhaust and cold supply airstreams from mixing. Blanking panels fill unused rack U-spaces to block bypass air. Aisle containment (hot or cold) reduces recirculation and enables higher supply air temperatures, improving CRAC/CRAH efficiency and increasing economiser hours. Effective containment can reduce cooling energy by 20–40 % compared to an uncontained data hall.
