Rohde & Schwarz Opens New Software Development Lab in Rwanda
Munich based Tech firm, Rohde & Schwarz, has officially opened its new software development lab in Kigali, Rwanda, the company’s first research and development initiative in Africa.
As announced, Rohde & Schwarz will cooperate closely with local partners and support talent in the country. The company is however, focused on making investments in future technologies such as 6G, quantum technology, the industrial internet of things (IIoT), artificial intelligence and cloud technology.
“Africa is an enormous growth market and Rwanda is a trailblazer in digitalization. Rohde & Schwarz is making a long-term commitment for sustainable growth and stability. We want to develop products for the global market together with our team in Rwanda,” said Peter Riedel, President and COO of Rohde & Schwarz.
The opening ceremony was attended by the President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, along with Paula Ingabire, Minister of ICT & Innovation and Dr. Valentine Uwamariya, Minister of Education.
The Singapore subsidiary of Rohde & Schwarz will be continuously expanding the new lab in Kigali with a plan to include activities in the area of Cybersecurity and support of local students and engineers.
Recently, Accenture opened its newest Advanced Technology Centers in India (ATCI), precisely located in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. While currently recruiting for various roles, the new facility is focused on advancement across cloud, data analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), extended reality/metaverse and other digital platforms.
Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) also announced a partnership with IBM to establish a new AI Center of Excellence which will be based at the university’s Masdar City campus, Abu Dhabi, UAE.
Oracle also opened its new innovation lab, located close to Chicago, Illinois, a 30,000 square foot facility which is called “Oracle Industry Lab” that will first focus on the energy and water, construction and engineering, communications, and manufacturing industries, all supported by Verizon 5G Ultra Wideband.
